Fireworks believed to have sparked Southampton grass blaze
Crews from Hightown, St Mary’s and Fareham fire stations were called at 12:39 this afternoon following multiple calls reporting a grass fire on Hannay Rise in Southampton.
A 100m-by-30m area of grass was alight, and extinguished by firefighters using jets, hose reels and beaters.
Crews dampened down the area, finding remnants of fireworks, which had been lit by local youths, at the scene which are believed to have caused the blaze.
HIWFRS returned to station at 13:41.
