Firefighters tackle fire at derelict building in Andover

Firefighters tackled a fire at a derelict building on Andover High Street yesterday afternoon.

Crews from Andover, Sutton Scotney and Winchester were called shortly after 3.15pm, alongside firefighters from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used hose-reel jets and main jets to extinguish the fire, which involved debris between the ground and first floors. The stop message was received at 7.20pm.

Crews returned to the scene later that evening to carry out further checks. No signs of smoke or hotspots were found, and it was confirmed that no further re-inspections were necessary.

A joint investigation by police and the fire service into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
