Firefighters called to Southampton flat blaze in the early hours

Southampton firefighters had an early wake-up call to tackle a flat fire on Lumpy Lane.

St Mary’s, Hightown and Eastleigh crews were called at 1:58 this morning (01 Feb) to a fire within the bedroom of a fourth-floor flat.

HIWFRS evacuated residents from the third and fourth floors due to heavy smoke logging.

The fire involving rubbish was extinguished using three jets and one hose reel, before ventilation fans were used to clear smoke.

Three casualties were treated by South Central Ambulance Service paramedics for smoke inhalation.

A joint fire and police investigation will take place in the morning to establish the cause.

Crews left the scene and returned to station following the stop message at 3:07.
