Firefighters called to assist Coastguard with Hythe mud rescue
Firefighters worked alongside other emergency service partners after two teenagers got stuck in the mud.
Crews from Hardley, Redbridge and Fareham were called to Shamlock Way, Hythe, at 10:30am on Saturday morning to searched the shore side.
While one of the boys managed to get free, the other, in his attempts to get out, had worked himself further into the mud.
Fire crews used portable rescue platforms, known as mud paths, to reach the casualty to make a stable platform around the boy and dug him out releasing him from the bog.
HIWFRS left the scene at around 11:30am.
HIWFRS tips on how to stay safe around mud
Mud can be hazardous and deceptive. Always follow local warning signs, stick to marked paths, and avoid unknown areas – especially if you’re alone. Mud may appear solid but can be dangerously soft.
- Stay on safe routes
- Carry a mobile phone
- Stay aware of your surroundings
If you or someone else becomes trapped, call 999 immediately – do not attempt a rescue yourself.
