Firefighters brought a 600-tonne manure heap fire under control on Sunday

Crews from across HIWFRS and DWFRS were called shortly before 7am on Sunday morning to the stable yard in Whitsbury near Fordingbridge.

The pile was well alight when firefighters arrived, and used the onsite machinery to create a firebreak and remove hay away from the blaze.

Crews from Fordingbridge, Ringwood, Beaulieu, Lymington and DWFRS were on the scene before relief firefighters took over a few hours later, coming from Droxford, St Mary’s and New Milton.

The incident was left with the landowner as HIWFRS left the scene shortly before 4pm.

The fire is largely out, with the remnants of the blaze expected to burn for a few days so there is likely to be smoke in the area.
