Firefighters battle Bransgore blaze

Firefighters are tackling a fire involving a large area of woodland on the border of Hampshire and Dorset in Bransgore.

Nearby residents are advised to close doors and windows due to the smoke in the area.

There are a large number of fire engines in attendance so please avoid the area around Burley Road.

Crews from New Milton, Lymington, Fordingbridge, Eastleigh and Beaulieu were first called at 19:35 and are working alongside teams from Dorset and Wiltshire FRS.

Using water carriers and Land Rovers, firefighters are working to surround and stop the blaze.

The incident was scaled down overnight but a few fire service vehicles remain on the scene this morning with relief crews working to extinguish hotspots.

Our teams have been working hard and making good progress on the scene at Bransgore.

We are gradually scaling the incident back but will have a presence in the area throughout the day.

The affected area will continue to smoke for some time but if you see fire, dial 999.

*UPDATE 21:30 11 MAY*

The fire affected one hectare of heathland and woods.

The stop message came in at 21:24.

One crew will return in the morning to conduct a reinspection of the area and check for any hotspots.
