City-centre hotel evacuated as Portsmouth crews extinguish room fire
Portsmouth firefighters were called to a fire within a hotel room on Stanhope Road shortly before midnight last night.
Crews from Southsea, Cosham, Havant and Portchester arrived to extinguish the fire on the eighth floor involving bedding and a mattress.
Fortunately there were no casualties as guests were evacuated, before they were later allowed to return into the building after the affected room was ventilated after suffering smoke damage.
Police officers have provided a scene guard overnight to allow for a joint fire and police investigation into the cause to commence in the morning.
Firefighters began to leave the scene following the stop message at 1:30am.
