Early hours house fire in Brading

Firefighters were alerted to a Brading house fire in the early hours of this morning.

Around thirty emergency calls reporting the blaze on New Road were made into the HIWFRS Control Room at half two.

Crews from Freshwater, Ventnor, Sandown and Ryde were on the scene along with the aerial ladder platform.

The semi-detached property was fully involved in the blaze which was spreading to an adjoining roof.

One casualty was taken to hospital by paramedics.

The power supply to the house was isolated as crews used jets to extinguish the fire and dampen down hotspots.

Mainland crews from Southsea, Havant, Liphook and Fareham arrived to take over from the teams that had been working throughout the night.

The building which has been deemed unsafe to enter, has been left with police following the stop message at 12:53.

HIWFRS Group Manager Dean Haward said:

“It was a busy night for our teams with two significant incidents taking place on the Isle of Wight.

“Crews remain on the scene damping down before investigations can commence.

“Our firefighters worked incredibly hard in difficult conditions to extinguish two well-established fires and, with the help of the HIWFRS Control Room team, maintain sufficient cover across the Island.

“Our on-call teams played a vital role in our response to these callouts overnight. These are people that continue to go above and beyond in order to protect their communities and keep people safe.”
