Barn Blaze in Bowcombe lasts through night
Firefighters were called out to a barn fire in Carisbrooke shortly after midnight.
Crews from Newport, Cowes, Ryde, Shanklin, Sandown, Ventnor and Freshwater were on the scene of the farm to tackle the blaze in the agricultural building which was destroyed.
The water carrier from Freshwater and a further support vehicle from East Cowes was also called to attend as the road was closed to allow firefighting operations.
The roof of the barn collapsed during the blaze which was tackled by firefighters in breathing apparatus using jets and hose reels.
Mainland fire engines from Botley, Droxford and Hayling Island attended to take over from the crews who were first on the scene.
The stop message came in shortly before 5am but crews remained to dampen down.
Police are guarding the scene prior to a joint investigation into the cause.
HIWFRS Group Manager Dean Haward said:
“It was a busy night for our teams with two significant incidents taking place on the Isle of Wight.
“Crews remain on the scene damping down before investigations can commence.
“Our firefighters worked incredibly hard in difficult conditions to extinguish two well-established fires and, with the help of the HIWFRS Control Room team, maintain sufficient cover across the Island.
“Our on-call teams played a vital role in our response to these callouts overnight. These are people that continue to go above and beyond in order to protect their communities and keep people safe.”
