Crews tackle Warsash thatched roof fire
Firefighters were called to a thatched property fire in Warsash shortly after 6pm yesterday.
The roof was fully alight when crews arrived, but fortunately the occupants along with their pets had evacuated.
Teams from Hightown, Fareham, Cosham, Portchester and Botley were supported by specialist vehicles such the aerial ladder platform, water carriers and command support units from St Mary’s, SHQ, Eastleigh, Ringwood and Botley.
The incident was scaled down overnight as relief crews from Basingstoke, Havant, Southsea, Rushmoor and Gosport took over from the firefighters who were first on the scene.
The roof was destroyed by the fire, as the rest of the property suffered significant smoke and water damage.
Firefighters left the scene at around half three in the morning having dampened down the thatch and the surroundings.
Aware of the dangers of living in a thatched property, the residents were able to evacuate safely and quickly taking with them their prepared essentials and belongings.

Firefighters left the scene and returned to station following the stop message at 3:27am.

The incident is being scaled down further to leave three relief crews from Basingstoke, Southsea and Havant working overnight taking over from the firefighters that were first on the scene.
