Crews on Isle of Wight tackle fire at derelict Sandown hotel

Firefighters tackled a blaze overnight at a derelict hotel in Sandown.

Crews from Sandown, Shanklin, Ryde, Newport, Cowes and Ventnor attended following a report of smoke issuing from the building just before 1am on Saturday 17 February.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used jets, hose reel jets and an aerial ladder platform to tackle the flames on the second floor and roof space, which were extinguished by approximately 5am.

Firefighters began to leave the scene following the stop message at 5:30am, fortunately there were no casualties.

Police officers are providing a scene guard to allow for a joint fire and police investigation into the cause of the blaze.
