Bursledon kitchen blaze sparks important smoke alarm reminder

IMG 20240220 WA0002A fire broke out at a Bursledon property at around 7pm last night after the occupants left the kitchen, leaving food burning on the hob.

The smoke alarms sounded and once the parents responded, they were able to evacuate their home alongside their two young children.

Wearing breathing apparatus sets, firefighters from Hightown and Bishop’s Waltham used hose reels and jets to extinguish the fire which caused heavy smoke damage in the kitchen.

Firefighters provided initial medical treatment for smoke inhalation to the family, who were then taken onto hospital by paramedics as a precaution.

HIWFRS would like to remind the public not to leave the kitchen unattended whilst cooking, to respond immediately to the sounding of your smoke alarm, and when doing so evacuate the property, remaining outside to dial 999.
