Casualty treated for burns and smoke inhalation following Southampton flat fire
Southampton firefighters were called shortly before 8am after a fire broke out in a first-floor residential flat on Westwood Road.
HIWFRS were first called at 7:55 with reports of an alarm sounding and smoke sighted.
The crews from St Mary’s, Redbridge, Hightown and Portchester rescued one male casualty who was passed into the care of South Central Ambulance Service paramedics who treated him for burns and smoke inhalation.
The blaze was extinguished using one hose reel and one jet, as firefighters wore six sets of breathing apparatus, and used ventilation fans to clear smoke.
The stop message came in at 9:17 before crews remained on the scene to conduct post-incident community safety visits to neighbouring flats.
Fire investigation officers will attend to property later today alongside Hampshire Constabulary colleagues to establish a cause.
