Candle sparks high street property blaze in Emsworth

Firefighters were called to a property fire on the High Street in Emsworth shortly after 11pm last night (02 Dec).

The caller reported the bed was alight, possibly from a candle, and the window to the bedroom had blown out.

The first-floor of the detached property suffered 50% damage from the fire, and was fully affected by smoke.

The fire was extinguished by crews from Emsworth, Havant, Cosham and Portchester, using six sets of breathing apparatus, one jet and two hose reels before ventilation fans were in operation to clear smoke.

HIWFRS distributed community safety materials to neighbouring properties before leaving the scene at 1:21.
