A fire caused significant damage to a Southampton bungalow this afternoon
Crews from Hightown, St Mary’s, Redbridge, Eastleigh and Fareham were alerted to the incident on Portsmouth Road at around a quarter past three.
The fire believed to have started within the garden’s decking before spreading to the house.
A dog was rescued and passed into the care of a local vet, to be treated for potential smoke inhalation.
Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used jets and hose reels to extinguish the blaze which caused significant damage to the roof and the rest of the property.
Fire engines began leaving the scene at around half four, with one crew set to return later this evening to conduct an inspection of the scene, checking for remaining hotspots.
