One acre of land destroyed near Church Crookham
We were called at just after 3pm on 18 July to a well-developed, deep-seated fire involving woodland and scrub at Caesar’s Camp, Church Crookham.
Access was difficult but crews used what3words to pinpoint the fire and worked hard to prevent it from spreading.
Around one acre of land was involved but by around 9.30pm the incident was scaled down, with one fire engine on scene overnight to monitor for hotspots.
Multiple relief crews attended on 19 July until the stop message was received at just after 1.30pm.
The final inspection took place at around 5.30pm.
Incident commander Craig Gregory said:
“We don’t know what the cause of the fire was but in these hot and dry conditions we’re asking everyone to take extra care because fires in the open have the potential to spread out of control very easily.
“Our firefighters worked really hard in hot and difficult conditions to stop this fire from spreading.”
