Lead Fire Cadet Instructor Kevin Morrison and former Fire Cadet Instructor Colin Tomes attended King Charles III’s Coronation Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday 3 May. They were chosen to represent the Service and HIWFRS Fire Cadets in recognition of a combined 45 years of volunteering with the Ringwood Fire Cadet unit.

Eastleigh Watch Manager and former volunteer Fire Cadet Instructor Colin Tomes said:

“I really didn’t do cadets for any other reason than trying to give something back and possibly change a few lives in the process. I feel truly humbled to have been given this opportunity. It was a fantastic day and an amazing experience.”

Fire Cadets provides fun and challenging opportunities for young people to reach their full potential contributing to safer, stronger and healthier communities.

The nationally recognised programme offers young people aged 13 to 17 the opportunity to gain essential social, life, work and wellbeing skills, the opportunity to gain a BTEC Level 2 qualification and a chance to develop their confidence and personal skills.

Fire Cadet Manager Melanie O’Hare also attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 9 May as part of the Coronation celebrations.

Melanie O’Hare said:

“I was delighted to receive my invitation after a nomination from HM Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson, Esq.

“The Lord Lieutenant has a strong interest in youth organisations and it’s a great honour for us that he is Patron of our Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service cadets.

“The whole event was a wonderful celebration following on from the Coronation and one I will remember for years to come.”
