How to contact usOur community is at the heart of everything we do; we have a responsibility not only to deliver our service at value for money, but to keep the interests of the public at the core of every decision we make. One of the biggest challenges we face is our response to the changing climate. This brings operational challenges as the incidents we respond to change, but it also brings organisational need to change how we do things to minimise our environmental impact and the contribution we are making to the changing climate.
We have always taken a proactive approach to reducing our environmental impact. Our journey to carbon reduction started in 2012, with a successful carbon reduction project to install solar PV across wholetime stations, achieving 30% reduction in carbon emissions. In 2019/20, the Carbon Trust established our baseline carbon footprint to enable us to track our progress.
From this initial Carbon Trust Report, the Carbon Reduction Pathway was then approved, setting the target of HIWFRS reaching Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050. This aligns with the UK National Target of being Net Zero by 2050.
