Large fire at Timsbury waste recycling site safely extinguished
Firefighters responded to a fire at a commercial waste recycling site in Timsbury at 2pm on Saturday, 11 July.
At the height of the incident, eight fire engines and a number of specialist support vehicles were in attendance. Crews responded from Romsey, Redbridge, St Mary’s, Fareham, Eastleigh, Hightown, Ringwood and Beaulieu.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and compressed air foam systems (CAFS) to tackle the blaze, which involved approximately 500 tonnes of waste materials. On-site plant machinery was used to turn over and move the waste, allowing crews to fully extinguish the fire.
The fire was brought under control and a stop message was issued at 5pm.
Crews returned to the site later that evening after several hotspots were identified. These were extinguished using hose reel jets before the incident was safely handed over to on-site staff.
