Firefighters tackle fire in Newbridge on the Isle of Wight

Firefighters continue to dampen down hotspots and remove roof tiles to check for fire spread, as ventilation fans are being utilised to clear smoke from the premises.
Further crews from Ventnor, East Cowes and Southsea, as well as Sandown’s water carrier vehicle, have arrived to support firefighting efforts, whilst a number of other vehicles have moved across to provide resilience on the island.
One casualty is being treated by paramedics for burns on her arm, with another casualty also taken onto hospital as a precaution.

Firefighters are tackling a fire in Newbridge on the Isle of Wight.

Crews from Newport, Cowes, Ryde and Shanklin are currently on the scene, having first been called at around half one this afternoon.

The fire in the roof space of the building, which consists of four bungalows, is being tackled by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus sets and using hose reel jets.

All of the occupants were safely out of the properties, and no injuries have been reported.

We ask that people avoid the area at this time to allow access for emergency services vehicles.
