Eastern Road Closed as Firefighters Tackle Lorry Fire
Fire crews were mobilised at 4:45pm this evening to Eastern Road in Portsmouth following reports of a lorry fire involving scrap metal and lithium batteries.
The road was closed in both directions while emergency services responded. Local residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the significant amount of smoke in the vicinity.
Firefighters from Cosham, Havant, Redbridge, Southsea and Fareham attended the incident. Crews used four sets of breathing apparatus, compressed air foam, hose reel jets, and an aerial platform to bring the blaze under control.
The driver of the vehicle received on-site assessment for smoke inhalation from paramedics and was cleared without needing further treatment.
The vehicle has now left the scene and is being escorted to a secure location, where crews will reassess its contents to ensure the fire has been fully extinguished.
