Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) Volunteer Fire Cadet Instructors have been recognised in the High Sheriff of Hampshire’s Community Awards for their valuable services to the community. The Hampshire Community Awards were held on the afternoon of Thursday 6 March at Wessex Learning Centre in Winchester.

Volunteer Fire Cadet Instructors Tracey Cain, Emily Frith, Kim Honeyman, Sophie Townsend. Ian Soutar and James Woods collected the award from the High Sheriff of Hampshire Jon Whitaker on behalf of all Hampshire instructors. Once the awards had been presented all of the winners gathered together to celebrate with tea and cake.

The team was nominated by HIWFRS Fire Cadet Manager Clair Hayward for their ‘unwavering dedication, positive influence, and exceptional leadership’.

HIWFRS Fire Cadet Manager Clair Hayward said:

“I nominated our Volunteer Fire Cadet Instructors as I’m so proud of the work they all do and the difference they make to so many young people. I am delighted that they have been recognised for their hard work, commitment and dedication outside of the organisation. Huge congratulations to all!”

The Fire Cadets programme offers young people aged 13-17 the opportunity to gain essential social, life work and wellbeing skills, including a BTEC Level 2 qualification in Fire and Rescue in the community, and a First Aid at Work qualification. Young people are able to develop their confidence and personal skills resulting in safer, stronger and healthier communities.
