Holly Nunn, based at Bordon, and Cherie Cheeseman from Waterlooville will be in full fire kit for the duration of the Thames Moonlight 10 challenge which starts and ends at The Oval cricket ground.
The fundraiser is a personal one for Holly who turned to the Fire Fighters Charity having suffered a shoulder injury. The charity were able to provide the support and care to get her back on the road to a full recovery.
Firefighter Holly Nunn said:
“I’d lost hope that I’d ever get back to work after not feeling any improvements for a long time, but the charity helped me believe I could get better, and gave me the tools I needed to do so.
“I was on the waiting list for shoulder surgery but ended up not needing it due to the incredible work and dedication of the physios and everyone at Marine Court.
“I’ll forever be grateful for the charity, and to everyone that helped in my recovery journey. It means so much to me to be back at work helping keep my community safe.”
The Fire Fighters Charity support more than 5,000 fire and rescue service employees each year who have been physically or psychologically impacted by their work.
En route the firefighting duo will be wearing a 20kg breathing apparatus set as they pass several iconic London landmarks from Tower Bridge to Westminster Abbey, and the London Eye to St Paul’s Cathedral.
Holly continued:
“The challenge is going to be tough and gruelling, particularly wearing full fire kit, but it will also be very rewarding and totally worth it!
“The charity honestly saved me physically and mentally. I was incredibly low when I couldn’t work or play football.”
“It is important to me that I repay the support the charity has given me, raising money for them to continue providing the amazing service they offer our firefighting colleagues.”
