The next generation of Hampshire and Isle of Wight firefighters are taking a weekend off from their training to take on a mountainous challenge.
The recruits who began their initial firefighting training back in February are coming towards the end of their time with the HIWFRS Learning and Development team.
But before they graduate and head off to their new stations, the group of 17 are throwing themselves into a trainee course tradition by setting themselves a huge fundraising challenge.
This Saturday, the T1-22 course will be climbing ladders at the ASDA Supercentre in Chandler’s Ford to reach a whopping height of 8,848m, equivalent to the size of Mount Everest.
Learning and Development Watch Manager, Rob Barrow said:
“The trainees are progressing really well and as they come towards the end of their initial course they were all keen to take part in a charity fundraiser as a group.
“The squad have come together nicely as a collective unit and are ready for the challenge.
“Come along and support the team as we try and raise as much money for a fantastic cause.”
The team will be setting off on their 13.5m ladders from 10am hoping to raise as much money as they can for The Fire Fighters Charity. The crew consists of the following recruits:
- Sophie Hodgson
- Elena Venier
- Callum Bennett
- David Temple
- George Percival
- Joshua Dudley
- Caroline Oliver
- Lee Boswell
- Danielle Barnes
- Megan James
- Patrick Sealey
- Michael Sellers
- Daryl Green
- Rebecca Hurst
- John Edwards
- Joshua Dawson
