Hampshire firefighters have got the seal of approval from experts in the field of the marine mammal.
The team from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service visited the Cornish Seal Sanctuary to upskill their knowledge around pup rescues.
Through the course of the training day they learned about the seal’s psychology and characteristics.
HFRS is one of the most pioneering fire services in the field of animal rescue and is frequently called to incidents on the coast.
In addition to seals they have been called to rescue harbour porpoises, dolphins and even a whale.

“The fantastic staff were extremely knowledgeable and provided great practical training in a safe environment.
“It was an excellent opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience and learn about seal psychology, size, weight and capability.
“This will help us when dealing with incidents involving seals in the future.”
Sanctuary curator Tamara Cooper said:
“It was fantastic to have the Hampshire team at the sanctuary.
“We learnt so much from them and we are so grateful for all the work they do to look after both people and animals.”
The sanctuary rehabilitates more than 70 seal pups rescued from the Cornish coastline every season.
