People in Portsmouth can find out more about plans for a proposed new fire station.

Two consultation sessions will take place to share more about a scheme to relocate Cosham Fire Station from Wayte Street into a new, purpose-built, facility.

The planned new station would be at the former PCMI site in Northern Road and provide better working and training facilities for our firefighters and support staff.

The new three-storey building would also create more opportunities for joint working with our partners.

Ahead of any planning application, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) wants to share the vision for the new fire station with the local community.

This will also be a chance for people who live and work nearby to provide feedback on the scheme.

Consultation sessions will take place at Cosham Library in Spur Road, PO6 3EB on

  • Tuesday 14 September, 2.30pm-7.30pm
  • Wednesday 15 September, 7.30am-11.30am

Representatives from HIWFRS will be joined by those from developers, Morgan Sindall and property consultants, Vail Williams.

Chairman of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Authority, Councillor Rhydian Vaughan, said:

“The existing fire station in Cosham is one of the oldest in Hampshire and the facilities need updating. The site is cramped and no longer supports the needs of a modern fire and rescue service.

“The plans to relocate Cosham Fire Station present an exciting opportunity to create a purpose-built facility which will benefit our firefighters, the communities that we serve, and our partners.

“This proposed development forms a key part of our Station Investment Programme and has an important role to play in the wider regeneration of this part of the city.”

Members of the public who attend will be able to see design drawings for the proposed new station, which will include a flexible community area and significant room for partner space. You do not need to register attendance in advance.
