Station Manager for Learning and Development, Lee Wood said:
“It was great to see our latest on-call firefighters complete their initial training as they embark on their new careers with us. I hope they will go on to spend many years looking after the safety of not only their local community but contributing to the safety of the whole of Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
“They will now continue to develop further skills by attending fire calls from their individual fire stations. They will also attend future courses with Learning and Development in areas such as breathing apparatus, immediate emergency care and road traffic collisions.
“As with wholetime colleagues, their development programme will guide them through every area required to become a competent firefighter.”
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Rob Cole added:
“I was delighted to meet our latest on-call course participants and present their certificates following this first important stage of their development. I would like to thank them for their commitment to the safety of their local communities and wish them every success in the future.

On-call firefighters train in several modules during their development, attend a weekly drill night and make themselves available for agreed hours around jobs, family responsibilities and other commitments.
The firefighters come from across the county and from all walks of life. They are alerted to incidents via a pager, responding to their nearby station to jump on the fire engine.
