Adam Jones a firefighter on Red Watch at Rushmoor Fire Station, is understandably proud of his daughter Freya, and a group of fellow neurodiverse students who have decided to take on the challenge of a lifetime.

On the 16th June, the 11 incredible 15-year-olds, all students at Appleford SEN School in Wiltshire, are embarking upon an epic cycle ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End, the full length of Britain, over 14 tough and inspiring days.

These young adventurers aren’t just chasing personal milestones – they’re pedalling with purpose. Their mission is to prove no challenge is too big, no dream too far.  They will also be raising funds to support their school and shining a light on and raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity. Backed by a dedicated team of seven staff members, they’ll all cycle over 1,000 miles, navigating each twist and turn while staying in hostels and bunkhouses.

Firefighter Adam Jones said:

“As a serving firefighter and parent, I am humbled by the tenacity and determination of this group, including my daughter. They have chosen to undertake this incredible challenge which has required hundreds of miles of training and days of commitment before they even begin.

“Additionally they are raising money for a number of beneficiaries, including the logistics, the school and the Fire Fighters Charity, something close to many of us.”

Their route takes them near to fire stations in John O’Groats, Inverness, Stirling, Edinburgh, Lancaster, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Exeter, Truro and Penzance.

Firefighters from Rushmoor will be supporting the team and riding part of the course with them when their route takes them near to the station.
