The group of four completed their Mod A course, a programme designed to teach the recruits ladder pitching and hose reel jet skills, at Ryde Fire Station.
Following an assessment with the HIWFRS Learning and Development team the trainees were presented with their certificates.
The on-call firefighters will join their crews at incidents and drill nights as well as continue their firefighter development with future L&D courses, alongside their day jobs in their local communities, outside of the fire service.
Assistant Director for Prevention and Protection, James Lucy said:
“It was an honour to meet our newest on-call firefighters and to present them with their certificates following this first important stage of their development.
“I want to thank them for their dedication and commitment to keeping their local communities across the island safe.
“The Learning and Development team here at Ryde Fire Station have delivered yet another high-quality training programme to ensure our recruits are ready to go out and make life safer.”
Firefighters Amy Matthews and Harry Miselbach will respond to incidents with their new colleagues at Sandown.
Fighting fires as part of Cowes Fire Station is Charlie Ford, and across the River Medina, Dan Carley will be working alongside the East Cowes team.
On-call firefighters train in several modules during their development, attend a weekly drill night and make themselves available for agreed hours around jobs, family responsibilities and other commitments.
The firefighters come from across the county and from all walks of life. They are alerted to incidents via a pager, responding to their nearby station to jump on the fire engine.
