Storm Bert call-outs for HIWFRS crews
Over the weekend Storm Bert arrived in Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
Our Control Room teams provided advice on fallen trees and dangerous structures to concerned residents.
We worked closely with our multiagency partners across the local resilience forum to ensure people across Hampshire and Isle of Wight remained safe.
Our teams were busy responding to weather related call-outs, here is a round-up of some of the incidents they faced:
- A fallen powerline blocked Grange Road in Bursledon on Saturday. HIWFRS firefighters made the scene safe and managed the traffic before handing over the incident to electricity engineers.
- St Mary’s firefighters attended Commercial Road on Saturday after strong winds damaged a first-floor window which was in danger of falling onto the road beneath.
- Crews from New Forest and Kingsclere attended separate incidents to rescue casualties stranded in vehicles after driving into floodwater.
- On-call firefighters from Yateley were called out to a powerline which had fallen onto a tree and was at risk from sparking a fire.
- A collapsed marquee structure was made safe yesterday by Newport firefighters at a yacht club in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
We recommend residents keep an eye on their local weather forecast.
If you see an unsafe structure where there is an immediate danger to life, call 999.
