Specialist rope firefighters rescued man who had fallen in pit

The HIWFRS Technical Rope Rescue team were called out at around midday to reach and retrieve a casualty who had fallen off a ladder and landed approximately five metres down into an excavation pit in Alton.

Firefighters from Eastleigh, Alton, Basingstoke, Redbridge and Surrey FRS were also on the scene of the Farnham Road site to assist ambulance colleagues.

A rope system was set up and immediate emergency care provided to the casualty as he was lifted out and passed into the care of South Central Ambulance Service paramedics.

The stop message came in at 13:24 when firefighters left the scene and returned to station.
