Residents evacuated from flats as Isle of Wight crews tackle fire

Firefighters from Cowes and Newport were called to a flat in Beauchamp Drive shortly before 2:30pm Sunday afternoon, after smoke could be seen issuing from the property.

Residents in the flats were evacuated while firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using hose reel jets tackled the fire.

The hob fire was extinguished and a ventilation fan was used to clear smoke.
