Portsmouth coffee shop blaze

A fire broke out at around 2pm this afternoon in a coffee shop on Isambard Brunel Road in Portsmouth. The fire, which is believed to be accidental, was extinguished by crews shortly before 3pm. A high volume of smoke spread throughout the 6-storey building, which was fully evacuated. It took several hours for the building to be cleared, but thankfully no injuries have been reported.

Firefighting crews have been working alongside colleagues from our Prevention and Protection Teams for much of the afternoon to resolve this complex incident.
As it’s International Control Room Week, it’s the perfect time to acknowledge the amazing work of our control room firefighters. Whilst managing incoming calls and coordinating with crews at incidents, our specialist team also closely monitors our resources to ensure we maintain fire service cover across Hampshire and Isle of wight at all times, so thank you to our fantastic #HeroesInHeadsets for helping to keep our communities safe!

The stop message was issued at 21:10 and we have now left the scene.

*Update 19:00*
The road closure is still in place, as crews remain on scene ventilating smoke from the building. We anticipate a number of fire engines will remain on scene for at least the next 2 hours.

*Update 15:05*
The fire has been extinguished, firefighters remain on scene to ventilate areas of the building which are filled with smoke.

The incident is still ongoing and there is a road closure in place between Greetham Street roundabout and the junction of Stanhope / Station Road.
