One person treated for smoke inhalation after Southampton bungalow fire

A heated seat pad caught fire causing damage to a Southampton bungalow.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus to enter the home in Thornhill just after 11.30 on Tuesday (25 Oct) after a neighbour reported smelling smoke coming from inside.

One elderly woman was helped out and treated for smoke inhalation at the scene before paramedics arrived. Crews used a hose reel to put out the fire and a ventilation fan to clear the smoke.

If you use electric blankets or seat pads at home make sure the wires are in good condition, that sockets aren’t overloaded and that you check your equipment regularly for signs of wear and tear.
