New Year’s Eve call-out for Southampton crews

Southampton crews were called on New Year’s Eve to a house fire on Suffolk Avenue in Shirley.

Firefighters from Hightown, Redbridge, St Mary’s and Totton arrived to find smoke issuing from the rooftop.

Five fire engines were on site, and the aerial platform. Firefighters in breathing apparatus used two jets and two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze.

Crews returned to station after completing a home fire safety visit and delivering community safety materials to neighbouring properties.
