A multi-agency response saw a stranded woman rescued from Portsmouth waterfront.

Firefighters were alerted shortly before 2pm on Monday afternoon to the incident in Eastney where a woman was stuck on an inaccessible ledge with the tide rising.

Southsea and Cosham crews were assisted by specialist HIWFRS rescue teams from Fareham and Eastleigh.

A Coastguard helicopter lifted the casualty to safety before she was assessed by South Central Ambulance Service paramedics.

HIWFRS supported the Coastguard operation using height rescue equipment before firefighters returned to station at around 3pm.

Portsmouth RNLI were later contacted by the casualty who had been released from hospital following treatment the same evening and thanked those involved for their help.
