Lorry blaze spreads to grass alongside the A31
A lorry blaze spread to a stretch of grass alongside the A31 this morning.
Firefighters from Redbridge, Romsey and St Mary’s were called shortly before 11am after multiple calls were received by the HIWFRS Control Room reporting a tipper truck alight on the westbound carriageway near Minstead.
Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters extinguished the blaze, which had destroyed the cab of the vehicle, using hose reels, before damping down the scene.
One casualty was treated at the scene by HIWFRS before they were taken onto hospital.
Crews returned to station shortly before midday when the incident was handed over to Highways officers.
