Large fire in Petersfield

We were called to a fire in a flat on Lavant Street, Petersfield at 18:20 on Thursday 3 July. At the height of the fire, 8 fire engines were in attendance along with other specialist vehicles. A number of properties have been affected by the fire, but no injuries have been reported. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

*4 July – 10:30*

Due to a partial collapse of the building, our Urban Search and Rescue team are working to make it safe for fire and police investigators to enter and establish the cause of the blaze.

*4 July – 05:45*

We are still at the scene of this incident, but we have further scaled back our presence during the night. One fire engine and one aerial ladder platform vehicle continue to dampen down and target hotspots.

*22:40*

The fire has been brought under control, but has caused significant damage to the roof of 4 properties. We will shortly be scaling down our presence at the scene, but three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform vehicle (ALP) will remaining onsite throughout the night to continue damping down and tackling any hotspots.

*20:30*
Crews from Alton, Cosham, Eastleigh, Emsworth, Greyshott, Havant, Horndean, Liphook, Petersfield, Portchester, St Mary’s and Southsea are working to tackle the blaze using breathing apparatus, main jets and hose reel jets.

The cause of the fire is unknown. There are no reported injuries, and neighbouring properties have been evacuated. Locals are advised to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke in the vicinity, and avoid the area where possible to allow emergency vehicle access.
