Gas leak – Romsey area of Hampshire

SGN Update: Wednesday 17 July – 09:15am

Our engineers were on site throughout the evening and successfully reduced the pressure in our pipeline.

The damaged section of pipe was isolated at 10pm last night and the situation was made safe.

This will allow our engineers to fully assess the extent of the damage, begin investigations into the cause, and plan how to make the complex repairs required.

No gas supplies are affected and Yokesford Hill, Bunny Lane, Belbins and Sandy Lane have now been fully re-opened to motorists.

HIWFRS Update: Tuesday 16 July – 11:00pm

The HIWFRS attendance was scaled down to two fire engines this evening, who were stood by supporting SGN engineers.

With the gas now isolated, the incident was left with SGN teams who remain on the scene.

Firefighters returned to station at around 11pm.

SGN Update: Tuesday 16 July – 17.15pm

Our engineers will remain on site for the rest of today and into this evening. The pressure in the pipeline will continue to be reduced this evening.

We’ll know how long the repair will take once we access the pipeline tomorrow. No gas supplies have been affected.

We are dealing with a number of reports to the National Gas Emergency Number as a result of this incident. The smell of gas will diminish as the pressure in the pipeline continues to be reduced this evening.

Should anyone have concerns, please call the National Gas Emergency Number on 0800 111 999.
