Firefighters save a number of beloved pets from Cowes fire

A fire within a pub kitchen broke out at around midday on Monday.

Crews from Newport, Ryde, Shanklin and East Cowes arrived on the scene to find smoke issuing from the high street building.

Members of the public were asked to avoid the area to allow access for emergency vehicles.

A number of cats, gerbils and hamsters were removed from the adjacent property by firefighters, and were fortunately unharmed.
