Firefighters rescue horse stuck in ditch on Hayling Island

At 9am this morning (6 Feb) on-call firefighters from Hayling Island were called to a rescue a horse trapped in a ditch off of West Lane.
The team arrived to find the 14-hand horse stuck up the middle of his leg in water.
Firefighters began cutting away at the thick gorse and trees in order to access the animal, before specialist animal crews from Lyndhurst and Winchester arrived on scene.

A local vet attended to administer a sedation, allowing the firefighters to manually lift and manoeuvre the horse, who was then left in the care of his owner.
Firefighters left the scene and returned to station following the stop message at 11:34.
