Firefighters continue to respond to a high number of outdoor fires
On Saturday, our teams continued to face a high number of call-outs to outdoor fires across Hampshire and Isle of Wight, so please keep following our guidance to prevent wildfires.
Around 50 firefighters were called to a large fire involving five acres of grass and woodland near Calmore Industrial Estate yesterday afternoon.
The HIWFRS Control Room received more than 25 emergency calls reporting the fire from around 15:41.
Hose reels and jets were used, with firefighters also working to create a fire break in order to protect nearby property.
The incident was scaled down with relief crews attending to dampen down hotspots.
Firefighters left the scene at 21:46, but returned this morning to conduct a reinspection and check for remaining hotspots.
Hampshire Constabulary partners are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the fires being set or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area.
