Firefighters battle barn fire in Barton Stacey

Andover, Whitchurch and Winchester crews tackled a blaze involving a barn used as a garage on Bransbury Lane in Barton Stacey.

HIWFRS were first called at around half four yesterday afternoon, with crews reporting heavy smoke in the area as they approached the scene.

A specialist water carrier vehicle from Eastleigh also attended the incident.

One casualty suffering mild smoke inhalation was treated by firefighters, but didn’t need to go on to hospital.

Crews worked to cool a gas cylinder which was involved in the blaze, preventing it from exploding.

Taking over from the firefighters who were first on the scene, a relief crew from Basingstoke arrived to continue dampening down once the fire had been extinguished using jets.

Firefighters left the scene following the stop message at 21:21.

Crews returned periodically throughout the night and into the morning to conduct reinspections, damping down the remaining hotspots.
