Crews from Basingstoke were alerted at around half 11 to a fire involving the roof of a property on Poynings Crescent, near to the M3 motorway.

Upon arrival they found the roof well alight and smoke issuing so further crews from Royal Berkshire FRS, Tadley, Fleet, Rushmoor and the Incident Command Unit from HQ, were mobilised.

Firefighters worked to isolate the utilities connected to the detached property after checking everybody had safely evacuated with one casualty suffering minor burns.

Deemed to be accidental, the fire is believed to have been caused by soldering works in the roof space, which led to the roof partially collapsing.

The aerial ladder platform was in operation as firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels and jets to tackle the flames.

Ventilation fans were set up to clear smoke from the premises.

Once the fire was out the incident was scaled back leaving a few crews to dampen down and visit nearby residents to provide community safety guidance.

A reinspection will take place later this evening to check for any remaining hotspots.
