Firefighters Tackle Overnight Blaze at Sports Club
Initial Incident Details – 8–9 August
Around 70 firefighters have tackled a fire at a sports and social club in Hursley, from Saturday night into the early hours of this morning.
Crews from Eastleigh, Andover, Winchester, Romsey, Hightown, Redbridge, St Mary’s, Botley, Sutton Scotney, Portchester, Beaulieu, Fareham, Bishops Waltham and Stockbridge were mobilised shortly after 11pm.
On arrival, firefighters found the building well alight. Supported by an aerial ladder platform, water carriers and other specialist vehicles, crews wearing breathing apparatus worked to prevent the fire from spreading and used hose reels and jets to bring the blaze under control.
Firefighters began returning to their stations at around 3am, with two crews returning this morning to reinspect the scene and dampen down any remaining hotspots.
Hursley sports club fire update- 12:20pm – 9 August
Following an inspection of the scene this morning, firefighters spent around an hour damping down remaining hotspots.
Due to the size of the site, a further inspection will take place this afternoon to make sure the area remains safe and there are no further signs of fire.
Firefighters will remain at the scene to continue monitoring the situation and supporting operations.
A fire investigation will also take place to establish the cause of the fire.
Evening Incident Update – Hursley Sports Club Fire – 9 August
Firefighters completed a further inspection of the site at 7pm this evening.
The area was thoroughly checked using thermal imaging cameras (TICs), with no signs of heat or smoke detected.
The incident remains under control and no further firefighting activity is currently required.
A fire investigation will take place on Monday to establish the cause of the fire.
