Closed door limits fire damage in Southampton flat

Firefighters were called to a flat fire in Southampton after electrical equipment caught alight while charging on a bed.

The homeowner returned to find their bedroom door blackened, with smoke seeping from underneath. Realising the danger, they immediately left the property and called 999.

Crews from St Mary’s, Hightown, Redbridge and Eastleigh fire stations attended the incident on Kent Street at around 6pm on 2 April.

Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and ventilation fans to extinguish the fire and clear smoke from the property.

The occupant’s wise decision to close the door before leaving their home, meant the damage from the fire was limited to the bedroom, with the remainder of the property untouched.

HIWFRS returned to station following the stop message at 7:15pm.
