Charlie the horse freed by firefighters after leg stuck in gate

Crews from Hayling Island, Overton and Havant, along with the specialist animal rescue vehicle from Winchester and an animal rescue officer, were called at 10:17 on Sunday morning.

Working closely with the onsite vet, crews were able to release Charlie the horse who had trapped his leg in a gate on Mengham Lane in Hayling Island.

After the 16-hand horse was back on four legs and taken to his stable, firefighters returned to station, with Charlie safely back with his owner and continuing his recovery with the vet.
