Busy Sunday for Island fire crews
Crews from across the Isle of Wight spent a number of hours tackling two significant fires on Sunday (23 May).
Firefighters from Ventnor, Freshwater and Newport were called to a café in Colwell Bay, Totland, at 10:09.
A fire in a bin store attached to the building was extinguished using breathing apparatus and main jets and a ventilation fan was used to clear smoke and fumes.
The stop message was received at 11:24 but crews continued to monitor for hotspots.
On Sunday afternoon, firefighters were called to Carter Street, Sandown, to tackle a fire in a three-storey derelict building.
The fire started in a first floor bedroom and involved the floor and floorboards.
Crews from Sandown, Shanklin, Ryde and Newport attended and used six breathing apparatus, jets and a triple extension ladder to put the fire out.
Police were requested to attend and the stop message was received at 18:23.
