Bin lorry blaze tackled by Isle of Wight crews on Bank Holiday Monday
Freshwater and Newport firefighters were called to a bin lorry fire at 8am on Bank Holiday Monday.
The crews arrived at the scene on Birch Close in Freshwater to find the rear compartment of the vehicle, well alight.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one high-pressure hose reel along with hose reel jets to stop the blaze and dampen down the rubbish the vehicle was carrying.
The vehicle only suffered slight damage to the rear loading area.
HIWFRS returned to station at 8:52.
