Chip pan triggers Horndean kitchen blaze

Crews from Waterlooville and Havant fire stations were alerted to a kitchen blaze on Draycote Road at around 11am.
The homeowner smothered the chip pan using blankets to stop the fire, which along with the smoke, had already caused significant damage.
Firefighters treated the occupant for smoke inhalation and a minor burn, before conducting a home fire safety check of the property.
HIWFRS left the scene and returned to station at midday.
If you are using a chip pan, don’t leave it unattended and if it catches fire, never use water to extinguish it. Find out more cooking safety tips over on our kitchen safety page.
